The Aesthetics for Composers course examines different and sometimes non-normative perspectives in sound and art. It delves into a broad range of music written for film, theatre and new media such as multichannel formats, installation and other forms of multimedia and interdisciplinary art. We investigate thought, inspiration, concepts, methodology, discourse and approaches to making sound/music and how these might colour our experience of the media for which sound is composed.  We interrogate existing structures and attempt to queer the margins of what is possible. We explore writing and thinking about composition in different modes and with different lenses. The course encourages active sharing and analysis, listening, watching and discussion as well as practical elements of composition.
