Augmented Reality Glasses for Industrial Application

Almer Kurzbeschreibung:

Immersive technologies hold the potential to fundamentally alter how we interact with content and will introduce a major shift from mobile to seamless interactions. Augmented Reality (AR) glasses already enable simultaneous perception of reality and virtually superimposed additional information.

However, current AR glasses either have few application possibilities that differentiate them from a smartwatch (e.g. Google Glass, North Focals) or their heavy and bulky design is limiting their use in an everyday context (e.g. Microsoft Hololens).

To drive innovation and productivity in industry, with applications such as remote support or interactive worker guidance, Almer Technologies is developing AR glasses that allow intuitive hands-free operation, long wearing times, personal eyeglass correction and are the first AR glasses to have foldable temples and can therefore be stowed away and retrieved as needed. Almer won an Innosuisse Impulse Innovation Project for the development of its hardware and already tested first versions with future industry customers.

Beside the integrated hardware development, where Almer successfully pushes the boundaries with extended battery life, revolutionized image quality and reduced weight, the key for a more symbiotic relation between human and machine is one where the impact of technology is ‘felt’, as opposed to just seen. In the same sense a desktop computer follows different interaction principles than a mobile smartphone, AR glasses require a totally novel user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design to create truly augmented experiences.
