This workshop, will take place in the HS 2022/23 from January 9th to 20th 2023. The goal is the systematic, creative exploration of sound and its significance for the design of interactions and communication.
A special focus is on design methods that understand sound as a means and material of interaction design. The projects will be implemented in an iterative process using prototypes, allowing for flexible development and dynamic interactive demonstration of insights. The central aspect is the continuous evaluation of design hypotheses with small user studies and field trials. There are only a few rules about Sonic Interaction Design, but a lot of space for experiments and design research that we want to explore.
The goal is not primarily to build functional prototypes incl. programming and sensors, but to work out details and variants of the sound design, as an experience prototype to experience and further develop by user tests.
Grades will be based on the following criteria:

All deliverables have to be uploaded to the filer until Monday 23.01.2023 at 23:59 PM.
Please take a look at the IAD documentation guidelines for submission.
All expenses must be approved in advance by the lecturers. Please be aware that your expenses can only be refunded if you submit the complete documents no later than 4 weeks after the end of the module.
There will be an overall feedback after the final presentation.

Sound is an integral part of any film. Some even say that the quality of a moving picture is 50% sound. Iconic sound design as seen in Jurassic Park or Star Wars have created their own worlds and defined a genre. Sound creates reality, makes things believable
but also influence the emotion of a scene enormously. That's what we want to focus on in this exercise.
You are free to decide if you want to work on your own or in teams of two.
What to do
The voice over text for film 2 and the transcript of film one scene 1 can be part of your project but don't have to be.
You can use any sound you can find on the internet. If you find sounds that are not in the public domain or free of licence you can use them for the screening in class but have to be really careful when putting it on the web. Self recorded sounds are much appreciated.

Briefing of the main project and where we want to be at the end.
The goal is the systematic, creative exploration of sound and its importance for the design of interactions and affordances.
This is done by working on defined creative hypotheses in a small "design research" process.
The order is determined in class. The group, which are presenting a new movie for the first time, shows the one with the original sound first.
For intermediate presentation 1: Concept:
Have a look on the google calendar for your timeslot. If someone is unable to attend a meeting, please swap the timeslots among the class so that there are no gaps.
We expect first thoughts regarding a concept. Bring different ideas out of a brainstorming.
Morning: Self preparatory
Afternoon: Questions and Exploration
Morning: Self preperatory
Expectation:We expect a complete concept with first experiments and conclusion on their findings.Questions that might appear:

Feedback in class
Look at the calendar for your timeslot. The final presentation should be no longer than 15 minutes and is structured as follows:
If you have a good and/or creative idea to use your 15 minutes in a different way that suits your project better - feel free to do so!
