      • Topic / Design Brief

In this area you will find the briefing of the course and where we want to be at the end.

        • Overview & Objectives

Every year, the IAD organizes a 5-days career excursion for the 5th/6th semester students. This year it takes place from 08th to 12th of February.

The goal of the excursion is to travel to a city in order to meet with local design agencies and discover a vibrant cultural scene, where we can widen our horizon and get insights into different fields. Together with the classmates and a lecturer of the IAD team, we visit agencies and museums, take part in guided tours or undertake other design-relevant activities. There is also time for some non-design-related things in the evenings.

Due to the current situation, we are not able to make a physical trip this year. Unfortunately, we cannot change this, but as designers we are taking this opportunity to create a digital set up with a very unique and innovative travel experience. To make this happen, the students are involved in the whole organising process.

It is part of the curriculum and students get 2 ECTS points.

          Directors
          Create a teaser film

This should introduce you students and the field of interaction design at the ZHdK in order to facilitate the contacting process for the group of Field Explorers. The teaser film will for example be sent to agencies, studios, museums, etc.

          Trip Documentation

Create a "making off" video about the trip (e.g. interviews with participants, snippets, etc).

          Travel Agency

          Travel Setup

Travel to the airport re-imagined. Transitioning from one place to the next. The main aim here is to create an authentic feeling of the place where we are at the moment. To deepen this further, this should be combined with suitable activities.

          Organising the Activities in between

These activities may also be outside the design context, but should relate to the place where we are. Examples would be karaoke in Japan, a museum visit in South Korea, a cooking class in Mexico.

          Influencers

You will report about the field trip before, during and after via our official communication channels (Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, website ...).

          Field Explorers

          Research

The six teams do research on the design-related activities. Students from other groups can of course also contribute to this research. The design activities include insights into agencies or studios, discussions or talks by designers and artists. It would be great if we could end up with a variety of insights in different places around the world.

          Organisation

You contact the selected studios/agencies and ask them to give us an insight into their work on a specific time during these 5 days. To make this easier for you, you can include the teaser video of the Director group. At the same time you organise the timeslots for this activities.

          Information for the Organisation

          • No more than 3 presentations per day
          • Be aware of the time difference
          • Try to encourage the agencies to not only do a slide presentation but also suggest another setup like a walktrough with a camera on your head
